NEUROMODULATORS (Botox®/Dysport®)

What is Neuromodulator Treatment?
Neuromodulators such as Botox®/Dysport® are a minimally invasive cosmetic and therapeutic procedure that can offer a range of benefits. Traditionally utilized for cosmetic purposes, Botox®/Dysport® have increasingly found applications in various medical treatments, with many healthcare professions, including doctors and dentists, incorporating this therapy into their practices. The injections consist of a toxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, strategically administered into specific muscles in the face or other areas of the body to achieve diverse outcomes.

In technical terms, Botox®/Dysport® work by inhibiting the transmission of motor signals to the targeted muscles, resulting in temporary paralysis. When applied to specific facial regions, it includes relaxation in the muscle groups responsible for facial expressions, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles, frown lines, and facial creases. Beyond its cosmetic use, Botox®/Dysport® are employed to help alleviate muscle tension associated with chronic pain in individuals suffering from migraines, joint disorders, clenching and grinding teeth (bruxism).

Cosmetic Use
Botox®/Dysport® is skillfully administered into specific facial points to interrupt nerve signals to targeted muscles. The repetitive contractions of facial muscles can contribute to the development of lines and wrinkles. Neuromodulators relax these overactive muscles. Cosmetic applications of Botox®/Dysport® can include: Wrinkle reduction between the eyes, forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), near the mouth (frown lines).

Therapeutic Use
Botox®/Dysport® injections have emerged as a valuable alternative for individuals grappling with challenging conditions such as Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD), encompassing symptoms like headaches, clenching/grinding (bruxism).

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) plays a crucial role on both sides of the head, connecting the jawbone to the skull and facilitating essential activities like talking, eating, and swallowing. When this joint is displaced or subjected to excessive teeth grinding, it can lead to severe tension headaches and sharp jaw pain.

Botox®/Dysport® achieves possible relief by alleviating jaw tension, reducing the muscle function of engaging in forceful, often involuntary jaw movements that contribute to headaches and pain.

Treatment Costs
The expense associated with Botox®/Dysport® treatment varies depending on your location, the facility providing the treatment, and the severity of your condition, influencing the number of required Botox®/Dysport® units injections. Botox®/Dysport® treatment is billed per visit.
